Warm, bold orange — one of the most vibrant colours in the traditional fairground palette.

This orange E14 cabochon cap and base set is the two-part plastic housing that forms each individual light point on a fairground display, light-up letter, illuminated sign, or amusement ride border. The orange domed cap clips over the assembled base and bulb, casting a warm, bold orange glow — a classic fairground colour instantly recognisable from waltzer cars, carousel borders, amusement park fascias, and carnival attractions across the UK.

Sold as one matched pair — one orange cap and one orange base — ready to combine with an E14 LED bulb for a light point.

These are the same components used in our own professional letter fleet, deployed at weddings, venue installations and corporate events across the UK — so we know exactly what they're capable of and how they hold up under repeated use.

Specifications:

  • Fitting: E14 (small Edison screw, 14mm thread diameter)
  • Cap colour: Orange
  • Base colour: Orange
  • Cap diameter: 60mm
  • Assembly height: 63mm
  • Compatible voltage: 24V DC or 240V AC E14 bulbs
  • Material: Polycarbonate
  • Sold as: 1 orange cap + 1 orange E14 base (bulb not included)

Colour output: Through a warm white E14 LED bulb (2700K–3000K), the orange cap and base set produces a rich, amber-toned orange glow — warm and luminous, one of the most naturally complementary pairings in the fairground palette as the warm bulb tone enhances and deepens the cap colour. Through a cool white bulb (4000K–6500K), the output becomes a purer, more vivid burnt orange — cleaner and more intense. For maximum colour intensity, cool white is the better pairing. Cool white bulbs are available to order with approximately 2 weeks lead time — contact us before placing your order.

Orange pairs particularly well with yellow and red for the classic warm-toned fairground multicolour look, or alternated with clear caps for a striking orange-and-white display across a letter or ride fascia.

What it's used for: Light-up letter and number builds for weddings, parties, corporate events, and venue installations; fairground-style marquee signage and illuminated shopfronts; amusement park rides and fairground attractions — including waltzers, carousels, ghost trains, dodgem arenas, big wheels, and ride canopy fascias; travelling fair equipment; film, TV and theatre set dressing; retail window displays and exhibition stands; hospitality venue feature lighting. If you see the classic domed fairground bulb anywhere — in a production, at a venue, on a ride — this cap and base set is the housing creating that effect.

No minimum order. Trade quantities available. Unlike some suppliers, we don't require a minimum order — buy exactly what you need. For larger trade orders of 50, 100 or 500+ units, contact us directly for a trade price. We supply event hire companies, sign makers, amusement park operators, ride maintenance engineers, prop makers and set designers across the UK.

Compatibility: E14 fitting only — not compatible with E10 (40mm) fittings. Requires a separately purchased E14 LED bulb to function. Compatible with 24V DC and 240V AC E14 bulbs. See our Full Light Set (cap + base + bulb) for the complete assembly in one product.

How can it be used? To create one completely working light point, you will need the following components working together:

  • E14 Cabochon Base — the conic housing that sits in your letter panel or ride fascia
  • E14 Cabochon Cap — the domed cover that clips over the base and bulb
  • E14 LED Bulb — the light source that screws into the base via the Edison screw thread
  • Nut and nut holder — used to secure the base firmly into your panel or fascia, ensuring the unit stays fixed in place during use, transport, and repeated setup

All four components are required for a fully functional, secure light point. The cap and base set covers the first two — see our E14 LED bulbs to add the light source, and ensure you have the correct nut and nut holder for your panel thickness before installing.

FAQs

What is an E14 cabochon light base?

An E14 cabochon light base is the socket component that screws into a light-up letter or fairground sign frame. It holds an E14 screw-fit LED bulb in position and sits beneath the coloured or clear plastic cap (the cabochon). Together, the base, bulb, and cap form one complete light point.

What is the difference between E10 and E14 cap and base sets?

10 and E14 refer to the diameter of the Edison screw fitting on the base — 10mm and 14mm respectively. E14 uses a 60mm cap and is the standard fitting for most fairground rides, large marquee letter builds, and statement display signage. E10 uses a smaller 40mm cap and suits compact fittings and smaller-scale installations. The two sizes are not interchangeable — check your existing cap diameter or lampholder thread before ordering. If you're unsure, send us a photo via our contact page and we'll confirm the correct size before you order.

How many sets do I need for my installation?

One set per light bulb. A typical 1-metre capital letter uses approximately 6 light points depending on light up letter style and bulb spacing. For fairground ride borders and fascia panels, 6–10cm spacing gives the classic open fairground look. Contact us with your dimensions and we'll help you calculate the right quantities.

Are these suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. The polycarbonate cap and base are suitable for both indoor and outdoor event and display use. For permanent outdoor installations in exposed conditions, ensure your lampholder and wiring are rated appropriately for outdoor use — the cap and base themselves are weather tolerant but the full assembly should be specified for the environment.

Do you sell the bulb and cap separately?

Yes — we sell E14 LED bulbs, coloured cabochon caps, and a Full Light Set (base + bulb + cap) as a complete assembly. See our components collection for all options.

Are these suitable for funfair and travelling fairground equipment?

Yes. Our E14 bases are built for the robust, repeat-use demands of the events and fairground industry — not lightweight decorative products. They're the same bases we use in our own professional letter fleet, which gets loaded, transported, set up and taken down repeatedly across the year. For travelling fairs and seasonal operators who need reliable replacement parts quickly, we offer next-day UK delivery on certain components.

Do you sell replacement parts for fairground rides and amusement equipment in bulk?

Yes. While our website is set up for individual and small-quantity orders, we regularly supply trade customers — including event hire companies, sign makers, amusement park operators and ride maintenance engineers — with larger quantities of components. If you need 50, 100 or 500+ bases, contact us directly for a trade price. We can also advise on compatible bulbs, caps and wiring components for your specific installation.
