The official replacement mains lead for Ray of Light light-up letters.

This is the mains power lead for Ray of Light illuminated letters, numbers, and symbols. If your existing lead has been lost, damaged, or worn through repeated use, this is the correct replacement — designed and specified specifically for use with our letter range and not suitable for use with third-party letter brands or other illuminated props.

Available in two lengths — standard 1m and long 2.2m — to suit different venue layouts and power socket positions. Both versions feature a standard UK 13A plug and black cable, and are PAT tested before dispatch, making them suitable for use at licensed venues and events without additional testing.

Specifications:

  • Compatible with: Ray of Light illuminated letters, numbers and symbols only
  • Plug type: UK 13A (standard 3-pin plug)
  • Cable colour: Black
  • Available lengths: Standard 1m | Long 2.2m
  • PAT tested: Yes
  • Use: Indoor only
  • Sold individually — one lead can operate up to 8 letters required

Which length do I need?
The standard 1m lead is suitable for most venue setups where a power socket is within close reach of your letters. The long 2.2m lead is the better choice for larger venues, stage setups, or anywhere power sockets are further away from where your letters are positioned. If in doubt, the 2.2m lead gives you more flexibility on the night without needing an extension lead.

Replacement only — not an accessory.
This lead is a direct replacement for a lost or damaged lead. It is not a universal mains lead and is not compatible with light-up letters, signs or props from other suppliers. If you are unsure whether this lead is compatible with your letters, contact us before ordering.

PAT tested. Ready to use.
Every lead is PAT tested before dispatch and can be used with confidence at licensed venues, hotels, and event spaces that require PAT certification on all electrical equipment. PAT documentation available on request.

One lead per 8 letters.
One lead powers up to 8 letters. If you are running a display of 8 letters or fewer, one lead is sufficient. For larger displays of 9 or more letters, you will need an additional lead. Order the number of leads that matches the size of your display.

FAQs

What is an E14 cabochon light base?

An E14 cabochon light base is the socket component that screws into a light-up letter or fairground sign frame. It holds an E14 screw-fit LED bulb in position and sits beneath the coloured or clear plastic cap (the cabochon). Together, the base, bulb, and cap form one complete light point.

What is the difference between E10 and E14 cap and base sets?

10 and E14 refer to the diameter of the Edison screw fitting on the base — 10mm and 14mm respectively. E14 uses a 60mm cap and is the standard fitting for most fairground rides, large marquee letter builds, and statement display signage. E10 uses a smaller 40mm cap and suits compact fittings and smaller-scale installations. The two sizes are not interchangeable — check your existing cap diameter or lampholder thread before ordering. If you're unsure, send us a photo via our contact page and we'll confirm the correct size before you order.

How many sets do I need for my installation?

One set per light bulb. A typical 1-metre capital letter uses approximately 6 light points depending on light up letter style and bulb spacing. For fairground ride borders and fascia panels, 6–10cm spacing gives the classic open fairground look. Contact us with your dimensions and we'll help you calculate the right quantities.

Are these suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. The polycarbonate cap and base are suitable for both indoor and outdoor event and display use. For permanent outdoor installations in exposed conditions, ensure your lampholder and wiring are rated appropriately for outdoor use — the cap and base themselves are weather tolerant but the full assembly should be specified for the environment.

Do you sell the bulb and cap separately?

Yes — we sell E14 LED bulbs, coloured cabochon caps, and a Full Light Set (base + bulb + cap) as a complete assembly. See our components collection for all options.

Are these suitable for funfair and travelling fairground equipment?

Yes. Our E14 bases are built for the robust, repeat-use demands of the events and fairground industry — not lightweight decorative products. They're the same bases we use in our own professional letter fleet, which gets loaded, transported, set up and taken down repeatedly across the year. For travelling fairs and seasonal operators who need reliable replacement parts quickly, we offer next-day UK delivery on certain components.

Do you sell replacement parts for fairground rides and amusement equipment in bulk?

Yes. While our website is set up for individual and small-quantity orders, we regularly supply trade customers — including event hire companies, sign makers, amusement park operators and ride maintenance engineers — with larger quantities of components. If you need 50, 100 or 500+ bases, contact us directly for a trade price. We can also advise on compatible bulbs, caps and wiring components for your specific installation.
